World Civilization (Required) 18 Weeks
1 Credit
World Civilization presents a chronological narrative from the earliest civilizations to the present. The course is integrated by a number of themes that form the patterns of civilization. Among these themes are political change and economic development, the influence of geography on the cultures, the growth and technology, the effect of contact between cultures and creativity in the arts.
Comp. World Civilization (Required for Honors Diploma)
18 Weeks
1 Credit
Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation
The class prepares students for intermediate and advanced college world civilization courses. Students taking this course will be expected to perform and produce work at a higher level of complexity.
Geography (Required) 9 Weeks
1/2 Credit
Geography is the study of the physical environment and its impact upon our history and lifestyles. Geography helps to explore how our environment has affected us in the past and how it will affect us in the future.
United States History (Required) 18 Weeks
1 Credit
US History is designed to provide students with analytic skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and concepts in United States history.
AP US History (Required for Honors Diploma) 18 Weeks 1 Credit
Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation
This class prepares students for intermediate and advanced college courses by making demands upon them equivalent to those made by full year introductory college courses.
Political Science (Required) 9 Weeks
1/2 Credit
This class presents the background and structure of the various levels and branches of government in the American federal system.
Law and Justice (Elective) 18 Weeks
1 Credit
Prerequisite: Political Science
Law and Justice curriculum includes case studies, mock trials, role-plays, small group exercises and analysis activities. The course is designed for students to resolve legal disputes. Furthermore, Law and Justice provides practical information and problem solving opportunities that develop in students the knowledge and skills necessary in our law-saturated society Law and Justice is primarily designed as a senior elective.
