Students
enrolled in Comprehensive English classes will study
basically the same material as other English classes.
Comprehensive English students, however, will cover
a greater amount of material before testing, be expected
to read content more quickly and reach higher-level
vocabulary use. They will also be expected to achieve
a greater use of sentence variety, more depth of reasoning
with valid and specific support. Since these students
are able to cover material more quickly and comprehend
the basic skills required, this class will then be
enriched with extra literacy selections and performance-based
projects. |

The
primary goal of Advanced Placement English is to develop
students' abilities as readers and writers (especially
critics of literature) by providing a college level
course during the senior year. Composition studies
focus on reviewing good writing practices, writing
critical analysis essays, and developing research
skills. Literature studies focus primarily on analyzing
and interpreting British literature. |

about the culture and geography of finance and the
importance of learning a foreign language for career
opportunities.

| Journalism
I & II (Elective) 18 Weeks |
1
Credit Each |
Prerequisite:
Communications, teacher approval required
Students
taking Journalism I & II will study techniques
used in producing print media. This class predominantly
uses hands-on activities and desktop publishing skills
to create the school newspaper and yearbook. The class
functions more as a business than a traditional class.
Cooperative learning techniques are used extensively,
encouraging students to reach consensus and make important
decisions that affect the outcome of the publications
being created. Self-motivation to complete work and
self-discipline to stay on task are essential elements
for a good journalism student. Students signing up
for this course should sign up for both semesters.
